Kakanmath temple is a holy Hindu Pilgrimage and lord Shiva is worshiped inside the temple premise.
It was established in 11th century and is situated at Sihoniya in Madhya Pradesh, India .
This ancient Shiva abode is constructed by the Kachchhapaghata ruler, named- Kirttiraja.

This eminent Shiva temple is fixed on a beautiful Pitha- Base and a sanctum is placed in an anti- chamber along with two halls- Gudha-mandapa and Mukha-Mandapa inside it.
The gudha-mandapa has lateral transepts, and four clusters of pillars; each cluster contains four pillars. The vestibule has four pillars in a row, which are aligned with the four clusters of the gudha-mandapa. The shikhara (tower) of the shrine makes it around 30 m high.
As per the Hindu Mythology, the temple got this name ( Kakanmath ) after the queen’s name- Surajpala Kakanavati or Kakanade of the village. And a legend says that the name of this Shiva pilgrimage was derived from the Kanak (gold) and Ma?ha (idol).
The most popular Shiva occasion ‘Maha Shivratri’ celebration is observed in this ancient and holy temple. This is a very sacred place to commemorate felicitous fest by people following Hindu Culture.
Large carcades are carried out within the city with people thronging the streets to catch a glance of the venerate idol of Mahadeva.
Fairs have been organised and people often fast on the night of Shivratri and sing hymns and praises in the name of Lord Shiva.
A big myth : that local people’s know about this temple is that temple was built by ghosts in one night. But no one’s knows what’s was actual truth.
How to reach:
There are two ways to reach Kakanmath from Gwalior, the first one is via Malanpur and another one is via Morena. The approaching road via Morena is not is good condition in comparison to Malanpur, so choose the Morena road.
The distance of Morena form Gwalior is around 45 kilometers and from Morena, Kakanmath is around 35 kilometers, means the total distance from Gwalior to Kakanmath is around 75 kilometers. Kakanmath is situated at a distance from main road so you cannot get any pubic convenience here, the best way to go here is to use your own vehicle.
